Responsible Holiday

Most of us love travelling but what can we do in our travelling that would make a positive contribution to the place we visit and to the environment?

Responsible travelling is about respecting the place you visit and benefitting the local people and the environment. Responsible travelling is not just about visiting the main tourist attractions, it is also about learning and experiencing the way of life of the locals and respecting the different culture.
To travel responsibly begins from the moment you plan your holiday. Consider the following factors before you make your travel plans.

• Be conscious about global warming and carbon emission. Try to reduce flying time as much as possible, take train or other form of public transport for interstate travel. Plan your route in advance to reduce unnecessary travelling.
• When booking your hotels, check with the operators on how they handle their environmental responsibility. Environment policy like if energy consumption and practice, do they used only local produce, employ locals in their establishment and what do they do about conservation around them.

To have a better understanding about the place you are visiting, read the destination brochures, the places of interest and their basic facts about the place. Research the internet for information about the local culture and way of life. When you read about the place and their culture beforehand, you will definitely be able to immerse yourself in the environment easily.

Responsible travelling is also about respecting the different religious practice, language and social behaviour. Be respectful to the place and the properties.
Buy local products; do not buy products that exploit the young and the vulnerable. Visit the place where they make the products to show your appreciation for the skills and effort.

Visit local conservation projects like forest conservation, animal sanctuary and learn what the people do to preserve their environment.

Responsible travelling is about respect. Respect for the environment, the place, culture and the people. Responsible travelling is about reducing your carbon footprint and it is also about conservation and protection.
